Dataset publication & requirements.
JMNS publishes research datasets as independent, citable scholarly outputs in movement and neuromuscular science. Submissions must contain accessible, documented underlying data suitable for independent scientific analysis, including secondary analysis.
What publication provides.
An independent scholarly record
Each accepted dataset is published with its authorship, descriptive metadata, research files and version information.
A DOI and recommended citation
Once dataset DOI registration is operational, each newly published dataset will receive its own DOI and recommended citation, separate from any associated article. It can be cited directly in scholarly publications.
Connections to published research
Where available and verified, each record links to the original study and to subsequent articles that used or cited the data. Further links may be added as they are identified.
JMNS Datasets publishes datasets submitted to the Journal. The separate JMNS Dataset Finder indexes eligible datasets hosted in external repositories.
Minimum requirements for consideration.
Scientific relevance
The dataset must fall within the scope of JMNS and have identifiable scientific or methodological value.
Analysable underlying data
Provide data at a level of detail suitable for independent analysis or verification, including secondary analysis. Publications, figures, aggregate tables and statistical outputs alone are insufficient.
Direct accessibility
Published data files must be directly accessible under their stated conditions of use. Access that requires a request to the authors is not eligible.
Ethics, rights and privacy
Authors must have the right to share the data and comply with applicable ethics approvals, consent terms, privacy legislation and institutional requirements. Directly identifying participant information must not be disclosed.
Documentation, metadata and provenance
Provide enough information to interpret the dataset without relying on an associated article: authors and affiliations, study and collection methods, variable definitions, units, missing-value conventions, and relevant processing steps. Include a README or codebook where needed. Where available, supply ORCID identifiers, funding and grant information, and associated publication links; describe analysis code and software versions when relevant.
File formats, integrity and versions
Data must be readable and appropriately structured. Open formats such as CSV or TSV are preferred; XLSX, SAV and other established formats may be accepted. Document updates and disclose previous deposits and existing dataset DOIs. An unchanged dataset version must not be assigned a second DOI.
Licence and conditions of reuse
State the applicable licence and any legitimate restrictions clearly. The terms must permit meaningful scientific reuse and be compatible with applicable rights and consent provisions.
Photographs, videos and research code are welcome.
Authors may include photographs or videos of the experimental task, motion-capture visualisations, equipment documentation and analysis scripts when these help readers understand the methods or measurements. Such files complement, but do not replace, the underlying dataset. Authors must secure the relevant publication rights and, for identifiable individuals, explicit permission for public release and reuse.
Scientific and technical assessment.
JMNS assesses submissions against the requirements above. Acceptance does not imply independent verification of every observation or endorsement of conclusions drawn from the data.
